Miniature home Mares herdsires Geldings Foals The most frequently asked question that we get concerning Miniature Horses is “what breed are they”? The answer is that the American Miniature Horse is a breed of horse. The only defining line in Miniatures is their height. In this country they are divided into two registries, AMHA and AMHR. AMHA horses range in height up to 34 inches, and AMHR horses are 34 – 38 inches in height. Many Miniatures are dual registered so if they happen to go through an errant growth spurt, they can still be shown in AMHR shows. After 5 years of age, they are eligible for their permanent papers in AMHA. At Deer Creek Farm, we are striving to breed only AMHA eligible horses. We are also breeding for the elegant refinement of the Arabian type, superb athleticism and balanced conformation. The second question is “what do you do with them?’” While it is true that you cannot ride a Miniature, there are other ways to have fun with them. At the top of the list is driving. They are not as intimidating as the big horses, while still being a lot of fun. You can also do obstacles, and jumping or just take your Miniature for a walk. Below are some pictures that help answer the question.
